Forest Geography. On fossilized cultural landscape
(PhD student project) Stefan Nilsson, Karlstad University

The aim is to try and describe the dynamics of settlements and land use in todays forest landscape in a long-term perspective, from the Bronze Age until today with a look into the future. Therefore forest cultural enviromental management is being discussed. The weight-point is landscape, places and people of today. Traces of different kinds of cultivation areas are in foci for the study, in order to discuss different kinds of dynamics and reasons for differences and similarities between places and times. The main study area is Värmland but it should have relevance for other forested areas in Mid-Sweden and parts of Norway.
