The Models 2

Every small picture is linked to larger ones; opens in new windows.

I've got me a Roco BR80 N-scale steamer to use as chassie for one of LBB's steam engines. The distance between the axles is OK and the drive mechanism is complicated enough (to be N-scale).

The wheels are too small and the entire engine is in fact not big enough for S scale, it had been desirable to add some live weight into it, but it will do for now.

The Module

The Electric Central On the module I have now soldered wires to all rails and connected them in a central, with switches for the two sections. Since the track switches sets the current there is rather few wires and since I only run one engine at a time, I don't need more.

The engine shed at the end of the module The engine shed has gotten some paint and some windows: I printed them on OH-film in my inkjet color printer, it became OK and can be very OK with some more effort. Wet grinding paper shall be laid on the roof and some boards will be added around the windows.

Unsuccessful sanding of the tracks... During 2004 I painted the rails and tried to glue sand to the yard and trackbed. Didn't go well... Progress has halted a bit since then, but later I will brush it off and try again, with a diferent method. The sand - btw from the prototype railbed - looked just perfect otherwise!

Tar roof and windows finished090205: The tar roof on the engine shed has been glued in place - wet grinding paper 240. Maybe a finer grade should have been used, but done's done. I will draw ink lines to represent different layers of tar paper. Then the remaining windows will be put on, as will doors, with boards around, and finally a chimney on the roof.

The next step will be to shape land, foundation of granite blocks under the engine shed and so on. I have bought some Das Pronto modelling clay to experiment with this. Oh, right, then I should have sand, and paint, and...
